Start of development announced for Arraial do Cabo wastewater treatment project

The initiative aims to strengthen municipal sanitation infrastructure, supporting environmental protection, safeguarding public health, and improving water quality in a region of high ecological, social, and economic value. Located in a coastal area with sensitive marine ecosystems, Arraial do Cabo places strong importance on sustainable wastewater management solutions.
Treatment capacity and impact
In this phase, the project will treat approximately 10,368 m³/day of wastewater, contributing to improved water quality and reducing pressure on nearby coastal and marine environments.
Advanced treatment using Nereda® technology
The treatment solution is based on Nereda, an aerobic granular biological sludge technology that promotes the effective removal of organic matter and nutrients, including nitrogen and phosphorus, through a compact and robust treatment process, well suited to projects requiring high environmental performance, including environmentally sensitive coastal locations.
Supporting long‑term sustainability and compliance
By supporting compliance with environmental regulations and improving effluent quality, the project will contribute to healthier water bodies, enhanced living conditions for the local population, and the long-term protection of sensitive coastal ecosystems.
A step towards sustainable sanitation infrastructure
This wastewater treatment project marks an important step toward more sustainable sanitation infrastructure for Arraial do Cabo and its communities. Learn more about Nereda technology and how it supports sustainable wastewater treatment worldwide.
