The challenge: Improve effluent quality to meet tightening requirements
In operation since 1984, the WWTP at Panheel needed to refresh key assets to ensure it could meet more stringent effluent quality requirements on total suspended solids, nitrogen and phosphorus.
Crucially, WL’s plants use a modular sewage treatment plant model called Verdygo. We worked with WL to ensure Nereda could work seamlessly within the Verdygo model, while meeting effluent quality regulations.
The solution:
Since 2021, waterboard Limburg has been operating Nereda technology that delivers better effluent quality with lower nitrogen and phosphorus discharge limits and lower energy consumption. The first four years of operations have shown excellent results, so much so that the potential tertiary treatment of the effluent for the future does not seem necessary.
We can definitely say that the combination of Nereda technology and Verdygo construction technology has functioned very well.
The result: Wastewater is processed more efficiently and at a higher quality
By incorporating Nereda technology into its Verdygo installations, the Panheel WWTP now processes more wastewater than ever before while meeting stricter effluent requirements and consuming less energy.
Haskoning continues to support the Panheel plant team with a monthly consultation on its Nereda installations, as well as daily support managing trial results, trends and performance.
